The Energy Star program, a system of rating home products for energy efficiency, is a joint venture between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE). It's intended to save you, the consumer, money through more energy-efficient appliances and other products, as well as reduce electricity consumption and conserve precious environmental resources.
The EPA and DOE set strict energy efficiency guidelines for household products. If a product meets these guidelines, then it may bear the Energy Star label as a sign to potential buyers that it meets or exceeds those set standards. With energy prices on a consistent rise in recent years, Energy Star products are quickly achieving heightened popularity over less efficient models.
Products rated under the Energy Star program include windows, doors, heating & cooling systems, water heaters, various appliances, home electronics, office equipment and more. Energy Star has product categories and ratings specific to homeowners and businesses separately. Below are descriptions and other relevant information on Energy Star-certified products for the green-conscious home.
