Newest Remodeling Idea: Reclaimed Bathrooms?

Once in a while, we overlook the obvious when it comes to sustainable homes--using pre-owned fixtures!  There is so much effort put into specially rated products and energy saving, that we forget that the easiest way to be green is to prevent the manufacture of new products (which costs resources and energy), and use reclaimed materials.

Some of the most indestructable materials are found in... you guessed it... the bathroom!  If you're planning a bathroom remodel, consider the option of reclaimed bathtubs, sinks and even fixtures.  The beauty of this is that there are plenty of retailers who have reclaimed these articles, cleaned them up, and made them like-new for you.  And the best part, each one is unique, and frequently have a the touch of style from a different period--giving your bathroom a unique and artistic flare.  Plus, you save a ton of money over brand new pieces.

Just search "reclaimed fixtures" or "reclaimed bathtubs" in your area, and you can find retailers that have these available.  If working with a contractor, ask them for recommendations as well.  A green-minded pro will know how to be creative with your ideas...

So, get in touch with your inner recycler, and come out with a bathroom that will be the envy of all your friends, "treehuggers" or not.
