Sheet Linoleum

Eco-friendly sustainable products aren’t just good for the environment - they’re good for the health and safety of the people who use the products. Residential flooring is high on the list of eyebrow-raisers when it comes to sustainability and toxins. Knowing which products are safe, like sheet linoleum, is very important.

Linoleum is made from 100% pure, natural and rapidly renewable raw materials, including post-industrial cork waste, wood flour from lumber industry waste, linseed oil, pine rosins tapped from trees, ground limestone, organic pigments and a jute backing spun from the fibers of jute plants.

It’s a high-performance product with stylish options and a huge array of colors, textures and patterns. And it's customizable, so if you wanted the sheets to be hand-cut, for example, sheet linoleum is available in intricate patterning. The hottest trends include a layered leather look, nude tones and earthy multicolored specs for a natural Old World feel.

Linoleum is also a preferred flooring choice because the product is chlorine-free, takes less time to produce (for less energy used) and has an incredibly long life cycle. It's quiet, warm and the color in linoleum goes all the way through the product, making it very wearable.

The durable, low-maintenance and water-resistant flooring does emit some off-gassing of VOCs due to the gradual deterioration of linoleic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid that is essential for drying linseed oil. However, it diminishes with time and is less harmful than the petroleum-based VOCs of PVC vinyl flooring.

Linoleum proves to be a sound choice in eco-friendly products, as well as a tremendous value. It’s long-lasting, made from 100% natural material, easy to install over other flooring, quickly cleaned, comfortable underfoot and of course, incredibly fashionable.
