Responsible site construction can include everything from restoration of deteriorated land to proper disposal of building materials. Avoid building on healthy farmland soil, regions that are sensitive to fire or floods, and fragile natural habitats, like wetlands or endangered ecosystems. The first goal in green building should be to protect human health and the earth that sustains us. If possible, renovate existing buildings before constructing new ones. This cuts costs and preserves resources, energy and cultural heritage.
