Caroma Water-Saving Toilets

Did you know that flushing is the single biggest water user in the home?  And there are so many ways to reduce it.  After getting excited and writing about grey water and water saving last week, I thought that I should actually give more information about the water-recycling toilets I mentioned.

Sink Water for Toilet Flushing

There are great new toilets from Caroma, with a sink built right into the top!  It's perfect--as you use water throughout the day to wash hands and brush teeth, that water fills the toilet flushing tank, and voila!, instant water savings.  In addition, its normal flushing function is highly-efficient, using only and average of 0.9 gallons per flush (typical flushes from normal toilets can be 2 or more).  This is partly due to the fact that it's also a dual-flush toilet.

What's a Dual Flush Toilet?

Toilets with a dual-flush function allow the user to choose between two water quantities, thereby handling liquid and solid waste much differently.  It makes so much sense to flush liquid with much less water, and this already saves huge amounts of water.  If you're not totally comfortable yet with the idea of sink over toilet, the dual flush toilets from Caroma are already huge water savers.  Caroma are members of the US Green Building Council and have their toilets and bathroom fixtures listed with the EPA's WaterSense retailers.  One of the many good things you can add to your home to make it more efficient now.
