FLOR Carpet Tiles
Since the company’s beginnings in 2003, InterfaceFLOR carpet tiles have been marketed as a customizable floor covering that allows homeowners to become designers. While the idea may be innovative and appealing to a wide range of people, is it eco-friendly? Most signs point to yes.
These 19.7-square-inch carpet tiles come in a variety of colors ranging from neutral browns to cheery yellows, allowing for a ton of creative combinations. Installation is a snap since the tiles are connected to each other with a non-toxic adhesive and stay put on any floor without the damaging effects of nails or glue. This also allows owners to move the tiles from home to home – minus the cost of another carpet installation.
So how does this product fit into the “green” game? Here are the stats:
Tile Design
- Tiles are BEES, Green Label Plus, and SCS certified
- Made primarily from recycled, non-toxic materials
- Most designs meet or exceed low VOC standards
Manufacturing and Delivery
- Tiles are made locally to cut down on the environmental effects of long-distance transportation
- Manufacturing results in virtually no greenhouse gas emissions
- Interface has planted 87,000 trees to offset air travel by company employees
Once a consumer is finished with their FLOR tiles, Interface encourages sending in the old tiles to be recycled and reused for future products.
