With over two decades of experience pioneering Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDD), Solatube has vastly improved its product line. The company now offers smart alternatives to skylights and the myriad of problems often associated with them.
The Solatube Daylighting System is basically a roofing tube that funnels sunlight directly into your home. According to the website, “the light output is incredible, providing as much light as you would expect from a skylight many times its size.” The dome, which sits atop the tube, also filters out direct midday sun and lowers the heat gain coefficient by up to 25 percent. In other words, Solatube brightens your home without baking your family.
The system features Raybender 3000 technology, which maximizes the light transferred into the room even when the sun is low in the sky. The tubes use a material called Spectralight Infinity, the highest reflective material available (99.7% reflectivity). The product also features a light diffuser that allows the homeowner to control the quality and amount of light entering the room.
For installers, the system essentially snaps together, including any add-ons like inner shock domes for windy conditions. If you’re using a Solatube product to replace electric lighting but the electric light is still needed, there’s an add-on kit for that as well. They even have a ventilation kit.
The company's new product line features the Solatube 160 DS Daylighting System, capable of illuminating up to 200 square feet, and the Solatube 290 DS Daylighting System, which lights up to 300 square feet.
